The Look

When you looked at a piece of hardware, you knew immediately it was IBM. During the 360 and 370 days I only saw one piece of hardware that was not immediately IBM.

The color all came from the same pallet.

Most of the boxes were the same. Most of them were the same height. The CPU, the controllers, the tape drives, and the disk drives, whey they came out with the pizza ovens, were all the same height. Some stuff, like the card equipment, was not the same, it was shaped like it should, the card reader was shaped like a card reader. All the boxes were the same width. Some, like the CPU, were longer, but the lengths were multiples.

Our CPU was not quite a box. It had a table and typewriter on the front that stuck out to the side. It also was T shaped. The upright was the common width and the cross was also the common width.

So, for 2314 disks you had a controller and a line of drives that had two drives stacked so they were the same height as the controller and as long as it had to be to hold all the drives in the string.

Look at the pictures and you will see a bunch of boxes the same height along with the card stuff and printer.

The buttons buttons on all the equipment matched.
