Stuff In Filament

Some filaments, CF or marble or wood, have stuff in them. They are plastic, which melts, along with some other stuff, that does not melt. The stuff that does not melt is small, usually less than .4mm.

When the filament goes in the hotend the plastic melts and the stuff does not. So you have molten plastic with the stuff floating in it. Now it has to go through the nozzle. The molten plastic is easy. The stuff may get stuck in the nozzle and give you a clog. Even if the filament is not supposed to have stuff, there might be a little bit of something, dust from manufacture for example, in it that will not melt. That can also get stuck in the nozzle and give you a clog.

Usually it is recommended to use a larger diameter nozzle for filament with stuff in it. It may not clog a smaller nozzle, but it is more likely to clog. Often a .2mm nozzle will clog during almost any print. A .4mm nozzle might get something printed, or it could clog. If you really want a .4mm nozzle try it. Just realize you will get a lot more clogs and you may have to try more than one time. A .8mm nozzle is quite often recommended. Even a nozzle this big will clog, Just a lot less often.
