Noise/Filament Slipping

When no filament is coming out and the printer makes a slapping noise there is probably something stopping the filament coming out.

Look at the extruder and you can see the gear turn. The filament does not move or it barely moves. All of a sudden there is a slapping noise and the filament may slip back a bit. Then it does it again.

The extruder is trying to push out filament, that is the gear turning. The filament does not move much. The sound is the filament slipping in the extruder and pressure released and the filament slapping the Bowden tube.

Normally the extruder gear turns, the filament moves, it goes into the nozzle and melts, it forces molten filament out.

There is probably a clog in the nozzle not letting molten filament out. Stuff in filament clogs more often. Clear the clog and gry again.

There might also be something else stopping the filament. This is a lot less common, but it does happen. Heat creep can cause clogs. A sharp bend in the PTFE tube will put a lot of friction on the filament and may stop it moving. If the filament breaks it may nang up on a lip somewhere in the path. On very rare occasions the ever popular other may rear its ugly head.
